Hannah Stone

Hannah Stone.
Just. Wow.
Seriously.

I first met Hannah Stone several years ago- we chatted endlessly about our mutual admiration of Paris, art, Camus, Michigan, etc. She is that kind of person. The kind that engages in real conversation. The kind that reads real books. Hannah Stone is cultured, and she is a brilliant writer. Do yourself a favor and read her articles about life in Paris- they are divine. Hannah is also quite stylish. She has an easy, classic style- perfect for Paris, of course. Miss Stone's literary musings are replete with visual and stylistic commentary- which make them, in my opinion, quite perfect. This inspiring adventuress currently resides in the D.C. area- and is bound to accomplish beautiful things.

Check out her most recent commentary here.

Ooh! bonus! vintage culture keeper post featuring Hannah's style advice!

In The Closet With: Angie

My friend Angie is an amazing artist. She is also an amazing person, for that matter. Coming soon there will definitely be a post about all of the fantastic things she dreams up.

So the thing is- Angie is about to re-locate to Los Angeles. She is currently living in the middle of Indiana, and her closet has not been exciting her. First we figured out what she was loving- Dresses in black, brown, and grey- Cardigans in navy, grey, and black. She definitely had already defined a color palette that worked for her- solid neutral tones- along with basic shapes and empire waist. Then we sorted out clothes that were past their prime and talked about purchasing pieces that will last longer. It was a pretty fun time- we did not finish up until about 2 in the morning. Angie has a pretty good idea of her style- even if she didn't realize it. Her downfall seems to have been her graduate-student budget (or lack thereof). However- low funds are no reason to buy cheap. We talked about up-grading strategies and the long-term cost-effectiveness of purchases. Cheap clothes only save you money for the moment.

Angie's Homework:
+ Take rejected clothes to Goodwill
+ Keep an eye out for good deals that will upgrade styles she already has.
+ Find pieces to "merge" staple items- such as vests, belts, etc.
+ Purchase classic and simple basics that are easily layered and versatile.

What to Wear for Winter

One would think that a Winter wardrobe would be quite obvious- that everyone would know exactly what to wear for the chilly months ahead. Alas this is not so. Here is a quick list of suggestions.

+ Texture. Winter is the time for fabrics that feel great. lumpy.wool. herringbone. hand-made mittens. cozy sweaters. seriously. Go for texture. Go for cozy.

+ Shape. Because one has little control over style in the face of sub-zero weather, one should plan ahead. Purchase pieces that are versatile, layer-able, and yet are still suited to your form. You need not resemble a shapeless mass of fabric (unless that is the look you are going for).

+ Color. my suggestion- keep it dark- but give it a punch. A single splash of red or turquoise on a canvas of grey and black- will really pop. If you keep tones dark and neutral you will be able to layer with greater ease and dress in a flash.

+ Future. As always- buy for tomorrow. Only Purchase quality pieces that will last for years. Think classic. Spend a little more money for items your grandchildren will get to wear. Winter clothes can tend to be a bit more expensive than warm-weather togs, but tend to last longer. Your clothing purchases can be a great investment.

The Style of Zach Stone

Zach Stone is always impeccibly dressed. His great sense of style has only been bolstered during his time at Oxford and adventures around the globe. During our years at college together it was he who was constantly giving me style advice and sartorial wisdom.

Zach Stone knows how to pack light- in fact he should probably write a book on that subject. Perhaps that book will be followed by a book about his adventures in general, an anthology of Medieval History, and a best-selling novel.

Zach Stone has a penchant for Diet Sunkist that may one day be his downfall.

Asheligh Graves-Roesler

This Woman Is Going To Take Over The World. Just prepare yourself. She is 90% legend- which alone makes her a force to be reckoned with. Karate master? Probably. Financial wizard with extreme diplomacy and political savvy? Definitely. Ashleigh is versed in several languages, the harp, knitting, the complete works of Austen, Shakespeare, and any opera, symphony or BBC special you can think of.

Ashleigh and her husband Bryan create the ultimate power-couple. (either one would make a phenomenal president or UNICEF chair) Together they are stylish, unstoppable and rocking the philanthropic world.

While Ashleigh's official areas of expertise are Scandinavian Mythology and Victorian Heiresses, I would like to think that it is her style that gives her distinction. Always classy and poised- stylistically she is right at home in Harajuku, London, a silent film, or a rural hunter's feast. she can dress for anything- and not just adequately- but in a way that will blow every one's minds with her wit and creativity. seriously.

she is bound to be the most powerful woman in the world. Perhaps she is already the most stylish. Follow her on Tumblr.
